Vidui: text and translation
This reading edition includes an opening, Ashamnu, closing passages and two Al Chet excerpts. It is not the complete Al Chet. The text and translations remain a review edition; the reflective questions are an editorial practice, not a literal translation of the prayer.
Opening
Please, O Lord our God and God of our ancestors, May our prayer come before You, and do not ignore our supplication.
For we are not so brazen-faced and stiff-necked to say before You, O Lord our God and God of our ancestors that we are righteous and have not sinned but indeed we and our ancestors have sinned.

We have turned away from Your commandments and from Your good judgments / laws and it has not availed us.
And You are righteous in all that has come upon us, for You have acted truthfully while we have acted wickedly.
What shall we say before You You who dwell on high, And what shall we declare before You You who abide in the heavens:
Are not all hidden things and revealed things known to You:
You know the secrets of the universe. and the hidden secrets of all the living:
You search all innermost thoughts. You examine the kidneys and the heart:
Nothing is concealed from You. and nothing is hidden from Your eyes.
And so, may it be Your will O Lord our God and God of our ancestors that You forgive us for all our unintentional sins and pardon us for all our intentional iniquities and grant us atonement for all our rebellious transgressions.
For all of them, O God of forgiveness, forgive us, pardon us, grant us atonement!
